PSI-shipyard-25-2

PSI staffs a department of engineers who are fully capable of diagnosing, evaluating, and performing technical recommendations on all projects. Combined with over 80 years of professional engineering experience and an in-house licensed Professional Engineer, PSI’s engineering department has the expertise to support highly complex ship repair and construction.

Assigning a Project Manager for each availability and utilizing a strong matrix organization allows PSI to capitalize on an agile work environment. PSI’s leadership ensures that each Project Manager has recognized authority and responsibility for their entire project. This organizational structure promotes responsive performance and fast decision-making to ensure projects move forward quickly and maintain schedule.

PSI’s electrical department consists of certified electricians capable of performing a broad array of services, ranging from general connect and disconnect services to full shipboard electrical and power installations.

PSI’s marine pipefitters department offer the ability to create complex and custom pipe layouts, including design, creation, and installation. Fabrication at our weld shop is followed by rigorous flushing and hydrostatic testing at our machine shop. PSI’s portfolio of fabrication capabilities expands year after year. We have state-of-the-art CNC mandrel bending and hydrostatic testing equipment, including a 4.50” pipe and tube bending machine — the only one of its kind in the state of Hawaiʻi.

PSI’s paint department combines an extensive equipment inventory with a highly skilled labor force and industry-leading technology for results that exceed expectations. Our facilities include a blasting booth and two painting booths, along with 10,320 square feet of enclosed and climate-controlled buildings for abrasive blasting and paint application. The painting and preservation department includes a complete inventory of mechanical and portable ultra-high pressure (UHP) water jetting machines capable of achieving 55,000 psi for an environmentally friendly method of paint removal compared to grit blasting.

PSI’s welding and fabrication shop is staffed by Hawaiʻi’s foremost fabrication experts, including ABS, NAVSEA, ASME, and Coast Guard certified welders. Together, this highly trained staff is qualified for a range of alloys, including aluminum, stainless steel, copper-nickel, high tensile, and ABS/NAVSEA certified wire feed welding. PSI is licensed in the State of Hawaiʻi to perform welding (C56) and structural fabrication (C48), as well as certified for welding by ABS, NAVSEA, and AWS.

PSI’s full-service machine shop and its skilled workers stand ready to perform services such as valve repair, pump overhauls, drilling, boring, and shaft and gasket fabrication. PSI has state-of-the-art valve testing equipment, including a universal flange valve test rig, allowing PSI to perform in-house valve pressure testing.

PSI maintains an active Quality Management Systems (QMS) that is certified as ISO-9001-2015 compliant by the Navy’s Hawaii Regional Maintenance Center (HRMC). The approved QMS governs the quality levels of all production work including welding, brazing, machining, blasting/painting, and a wide array of specialty crafts. The welding program consists of certified NAVSEA and ABS welders, NDT inspectors, and is governed by an American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) NDT Level III. PSI also holds QP 1, QP 2, QP 3 accreditation with the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP). The QP accreditations awarded to PSI attests to the organization’s exceptional quality program and the employment of qualified Blasters, Painters, Quality Control Supervisors (QCS) and NACE Certified Inspectors.
